GREEN GARAGE DOOR

GREEN GARAGE DOOR

It’s a new year, a new life, and there’s no time like the present to reassess what’s really important. In your life. Yours. What really matters to you? If you don’t know, it’s time to decide. Now is the time to live the life you were born to live. Be your best self. Go big or go home. Go green. Start with your garage door. Go ahead.

Perhaps you’re overdue for a new garage door anyway. Or maybe you’re just long overdue for a change. Change your garage door, change your life. You don’t need a reason to choose a garage door that is environmentally friendly, although many reasons are available to you. A green garage door is better for the fragile planet. A green garage door is made from recycled materials. Eco-friendly garage doors come in a variety of materials: recycled wood, steel. The latter considered green only because of its longevity, its tendency to last forever before it’s sent off to be remade, reborn again in a new form. Reduce, reuse, recycle, reconsider your options. You have to start somewhere. You have to start sometime. What better place than here? What better time than now?

There’s the planet to consider, but you think of other reasons. Added incentives for a green garage door include: improved energy efficiency. No more falling asleep at your desk. Wake up before the sunrise to go for a jog. Eat a well rounded breakfast, your body will thank you for it. Read a book a week. Call your parents on Sundays. A green garage door makes all of this possible. A green garage door will also lower your energy costs. Heat your home, heat your life, for a new reduced price. You get what you pay for. You get the green garage door, fiberglass, with attractive window panels. A new garage door to go with the new you.

Fun Garage Doors

….other than park your car

Garages are an appendix to a home that you can transform into whatever you’d like. You can make your garage into an office, a spare room, a playroom, a man cave, a woman cave, etc.  Everyone’s favorite chore is often done in the garage. I love doing laundry and I know that everyone else does, too.  None of these activities would be comfortable or safe if we didn’t have garage doors.

Garage doors are the guards of every garage and its contents. Explore how many different ways that you can transform your garage from mundane and dirty to exciting and purdy. If you decide to give your garage a makeover, you have to ensure that your garage door is reliable.  If you were to make your garage into an office, you would have ample space to store all of your paperwork and official documents. This has the potential to be one of the most useful rooms in your house, but only if your garage door is dependable.  Using your garage as a playroom for the kids is another unique and employable idea.  Garage’s can be easily insulated and equipped with air conditioners and heaters to maintain the temperature of your preference.  Garage doors generally have a weather-strip on the bottom to seal out cold or hot air.

Garages are most useful, perhaps, when they serve as the birthplaces of numerous inventions. Tesla’s free energy, the computer, and even the cat door were all invented in garages.  If it weren’t for garages, you wouldn’t be reading this article on a magical electronic box; Teslas wouldn’t be on the road; Cats would have to stay safe inside!  Everyone should acknowledge just how essential garage doors are to our society. Without them, mankind would be in a desolate, dire state.

Utilize your garage door to the fullest by making it a space to do whatever makes your heart happy.  Garages are the perfect spaces to do pottery and acrylics, or to build your own bike.  The possibilities are endless, so take advantage of that fabulous garage!

Garage Door Opener Backup Battery

You may say that your garage door opener will never give you any problem as long as it in its best condition. But what if there is a power outage, do you think the opener will still function the way it used to be? This is the common problem that many homeowners are encountering with the door opener in their garage that is why most of these people provide their own backup batteries for their garage systems.

During times of power outage, it is always necessary that homeowners are equipped with backup batteries to make sure that they are able to make use of their garage door openers even if the power is out. You can ask the system provider of your opener on how to install a backup battery for the opener and how to make it work during times of power outages. This is sure to give you the advantage of dealing with opening and closing your garage door conveniently even when there are power failures due to natural disasters or any reasons.

Most of the backup batteries that are offered nowadays come with the entire garage door opener system, which allows homeowners to have an easy time using their garage doors whether there is a power source or not. As you pick a backup battery, most manufacturers would guarantee a specific number of days on how long will the battery would function. After the entire power of the battery is used, there is also a particular amount of time indicating the length of time for its recharging.

There are just many benefits that you can get when you choose to get a garage door opener battery backup. Provided that you have a battery backup, you can always be sure that your garage door will function according to your needs without worrying about sudden power failures.

Garage Doors Temperature

Mother nature can’t make up her mind when it comes to the temperature in New York lately. A couple weeks ago is was freezing cold and now it feels like full blown summer out. Extreme temperature changes can actually have a pretty big effect on your garage door and how well it functions.

With that being said there are some things you should take into consideration. You should definitely make sure to open and close your garage door a few times to make sure everything looks to be moving smoothly and it isn’t making any strange sounds. If you notice anything that seems to be different than normal then you should get on the phone and make an appointment as soon as you can to have a garage door company come look at the door. With how heavy your garage door is it can become extremely dangerous and scary if something goes wrong and the door falls. Your door will not care what is underneath it and it is never ever worth risking something like that happening.

A tech can quickly run all the tests to make sure your door is working optimally and diagnose any potential issues you might need to worry about. It will take less than an hour but can make it easier for you to relax and know you shouldn’t run into any accidents when it comes to your garage!

GARAGE DOOR SIGNAL

In Staten Island NY this week, residents were flummoxed by the mysterious condition that seemed to have struck each one of their homes. Early morning, as the fog burned away in the new sun or rolled out and back towards the sea, one by one each resident attempted to open his or her own garage door. To no avail. The automatic garage door opener button yielded no results. Each resident in his own garage, his or her car trapped inside, tried pulling the little emergency string that hangs from the automatic garage door opener, in order to release the garage doors from their spring loaded positions. What caused the mystery? A newly installed radio communications system at the local navy shipyard. The radio waves transmitted from the new system were interfering with garage door opener systems in the area.

In, Staten Island NY, and around the world, automatic garage door openers operate by relying on radio waves that travel between a stationary device — such as the receiver of an automatic garage door opener, like the kind that typically hang from the ceiling of the garage — and the moving device, like the garage door opener remote, which is often a key fob or a transmitter clipped to a car visor, within easy reach. The problem is, most radio controlled garage door openers use the same radio frequencies as the DoD. And it’s legal for garage door opener manufacturers to use this frequency as long as they are very low powered devices and don’t interfere with the government’s own communication systems. However, it doesn’t work the other way around. The residents of Portsmouth, New Hampshire were told that if the Naval communications were obstructing their garage door opener transmitters, they should contact the manufacturer and have them retrofitted. The Navy could not be reached for comment.

Garage Door pets

There has been a rising trend that is very disturbing to us. We want to address is and remind you to keep your pets inside. The unfortunate trend is that people are stealing pets more and more frequently. They know that people are incredibly connected to their pets and will generally offer a lot in reward money to get them back no questions asked. They also know that some breeds are very expensive so they will target those breed specifically.

So, what can you do to try and keep your pets safe? The most important thing is to keep your pets inside whenever possible. Don’t let them play around in the garage, this is the easiest place for someone to kidnap them from. If you let your do out in the backyard make sure it is securely fenced, that the dog can’t easily get out, and that no one can easily get in. We know how important your pets are and how much they feel like a part of your family and that is why we feel it is important to remind you that you should do what you can to keep them safe.

If you have to let your dog in the garage please make sure that your garage door is working right and securing properly when it closes so you can ensure your dogs safety.

Garage door tune

Just like a car needs a tune-up every now and then, so does a garage door. A garage door is a very complex mechanical system that does require routine maintenance in order to prolong its lifespan.

Garage doors can have a DYI tune-up that is very easy to perform. At least once a month, you should visually inspect the garage door springs, rollers, cables, and hinges for signs of rust, fraying, and excessive wear and damage. Frayed or broken cables suggest you need major repairs.

Putting a small amount of spray lubricant like WD-40 to the door hinges, rollers and tracks will keep your door rolling along smoothly and trouble free. Often the garage door opener needs some TLC, too. If you have a chain-drive opener you can apply some lubricant to the full length of the chain as well.

Also, if you have a wooden door make sure it’s painted both on the inside and outside. This will help protect the wood from sun damage. If there are any cracks or gaps in the door, seal them with some caulk. Don’t forget to check weather-stripping sealant at the bottom of the door. If it appears to be cracked, it needs to be replaced to keep the cold weather from seeping in.

Annual maintenance performed on a garage door can help prevent more expensive problems from happening later on.

By doing a couple of simple check-ups a few times a year, you will greatly increase the life of your garage door.  Be your own garage door doctor today!!

Garage door windows tips

Garage doors are not there only to provide an aesthetic appeal for your home or to segregate the car storage area from your living space. These doors also need to provide ample security to your garage so that you can sleep in peace. A good garage door would make entering and exiting the garage a breeze and help in securing your belongings as well. The security of these doors is often compromised. However, thankfully, we now have many garage doors that come with an electronic emergency level that can help you in getting better security features. However, finding the way in which these levers work is another headache that you must definitely be avoiding. Here are a few simple and practical tips that would help in ensuring that the doors and windows of your garage are properly secured.

• Use smaller remotes- why do you wish to clip a huge remote on your car visor when the burglars already know about it (most of the people use the same clipping formula). If you have to leave the remote back in the car, there is no use of buying it in the first place. Therefore, you must definitely buy a smaller remote that is portable enough to be carried in your pocket. This shall help you in ensuring proper safety at all times. Get rid of the bulky emote right now and get a mini version that comes with a secure pin code as well. Even if the remote is lost, its access would be locked without the pin.
• Disable the emergency lever- it may sound strange but the burglars mostly know how to use coat hangers to open garage doors (they do so on many occasions). Therefore, disable the emergency feature and you could be able to make sure that you get saved from such issues. You can use some secondary security options instead of an emergency lever.
• Zip-tie the lever- okay, so you might not feel that good about permanent disabling the emergency release lever. Don’t worry and simply zip tie this lever. This technique would help you in keeping the thieves at bay while still being able to pull the lever in the case of a real emergency.
• Block the view- why on earth do you have to risk your property by exposing it to thieves? Simply block the view. If they know what is inside your garage, they would likely come to get it and maybe even look for a chance to sneak a peek in the house.

ORGANIZING YOUR GARAGE

You know it’s time to give your garage an overhaul when you can barely pull your car inside it anymore. Cramped with overstuffed moving boxes full of Christmas decorations, bags of used clothes ready for donating, garden tools you hardly use, bicycles with two flat tires, old appliances — garages are veritable graveyards for junk you only need sometimes, and junk you’ll never need again. Of course, garages make wonderful storage spaces — the fact that a garage can often serve double duty as both a parking space and a storage space is why attached garages are one of the features most sought-after by home-buyers. Still, it’s all too common that the clutter overwhelms, making the garage an eye sore, an embarrassment, and a constant headache. Yet many homeowners are left to wonder what they can do about it.Garage organization is not as insurmountable as it seems. There are some simple steps you can take to get organized, and to ultimately get more from your garage. First, get rid of all the stuff you don’t want, all the stuff you never use, anything that’s broken, and anything you forgot about. Next, determine which items being stored in the garage are things that you use frequently — like cleaning supplies, rain boots, maybe a lawnmower, maybe some rollerblades. Clear a space for those things in a spot where they can be reached easily. When that’s done, it’s time to envision where the rest of the junk will go. Although you may employ the use of a few stackable containers (great for storing those infrequently used holiday items) the majority of your stuff should be up off the floor. Flexible, functional garage shelving, garage cabinets, pegboards, or overhead storage are all convenient and space-saving solutions. Each will put your stuff within easy reach, so you can actually find and use it.

Garage Door Sensor

When it happened to Angel in 2014, they thought that it could never happen again. The Caledonia family assumed it was a fluke, a freak accident that saw their beloved family pet caught beneath the concrete driveway and the automatic garage door, an accident which ultimately crushed the cat to death. “Just a bad thing that happened and we didn’t expect it would happen again,” Carol Caledonia told local reporters at the time. In their town of 350 residents, even a cat’s untimely death could make headlines. Angel’s death fueled the local news cycle for weeks, as think pieces on the safety of automatic garage doors proliferated.

Now the Caledonias are making headlines again, because yet another family cat has succumbed to the garage door of their home, meeting its death because the garage door sensors failed to sense the cat slinking low along the ground. “You don’t think about it. You push a button and you don’t expect that pushing a button is going to kill your cat,” Carol Caledonia said. Strange though it may seem, the incidents have been traumatic for the family, whose members can’t help but blame themselves for what happened first to Angel and then to Piper, the most recent victim of their automatic garage door. This time around, the family has decided to sharing their story, in the hopes that sharing what happened to them can prevent another family from experiencing a similar loss. After taking pains to educate themselves at the local garage door manufacturer and retailer, the Caledonias say that some real and simple changes could protect your pets.

An expert told the family that the problem was the height of their garage door sensors. Sensors detect motion or obstructions in the path of the garage door, which signal it to stop closing or to reverse its course, preventing injury. These sensors work best when set at 8 inches or lower. The Caledonia’s garage door was likely set too high, and so they weren’t able to save Piper.
